This instrument is the Customs (Prohibited Imports) (Sports Shooters—Biathlon) Instrument 2026.
(1) Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

This instrument is made under the following provisions of the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956:
(a) subitem 1.7 of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations;
(b) subitem 1A.7 of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations.
Each instrument that is specified in a Schedule to this instrument is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this instrument has effect according to its terms.
Note: A number of expressions used in this instrument are defined in the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956, including the following:
(a) certified international sports shooter;
(b) certified sports shooter;
(c) restricted category C article.
In this instrument:
Biathlon Australia means Biathlon Australia Ltd (ABN 18 883 464 584).
biathlon event means:
(a) a biathlon competition conducted or authorised by Biathlon Australia; or
(b) an event or activity directly related to training for, preparing for, or participating in, a competition covered by paragraph (a).
Regulations means the Customs (Prohibited Imports) Regulations 1956.
For the purposes of subparagraph 1.1A(a)(i) of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations, Biathlon Australia is specified.
For the purposes of paragraph 1.1A(c) of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations, the following sporting events are specified in relation to Biathlon Australia:
(a) biathlon events;
(b) the Commonwealth Games or an associated event;
(c) the Olympic Games or an associated event;
(d) the Paralympic Games or an associated event.
For the purposes of paragraph 1.1A(e) of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations, the following criteria are specified:
(a) the use, by the person, of the restricted category C article may only be for:
(i) participation in the event; or
(ii) training or preparation directly connected with the event; and
(b) the use, by the person, of the restricted category C article must not be for any purpose that is not covered by paragraph (a); and
(c) the person must hold a membership of Biathlon Australia that is:
(i) in effect; and
(ii) of a kind that permits participation in a biathlon event; and
(iii) not suspended.
For the purposes of paragraph 1A.1A(a) of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations, the following sporting events are specified:
(a) biathlon events;
(b) the Commonwealth Games or an associated event;
(c) the Olympic Games or an associated event;
(d) the Paralympic Games or an associated event.
For subparagraph 1A.1A(b)(iv) of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations, Biathlon Australia is specified as a sporting association or body in relation to biathlon events.
For the purposes of paragraph 1A.1A(e) of Part 4 of Schedule 6 to the Regulations, the following criteria are specified:
(a) the person is a participant in a sporting event specified in section 9; and
(b) the use, by the person, of the restricted category C article may only be for:
(i) participation in the event; or
(ii) training or preparation directly connected with the event; and
(c) the use, by the person, of the restricted category C article must not be for any purpose that is not covered by paragraph (b).
