
The Australian Communications and Media Authority makes the following determination under subsection 99(1) of the Telecommunications Act 1997.

This is the Telecommunications (Service Provider — Identity Checks for Prepaid Mobile Carriage Services) Amendment Determination 2025 (No. 1).
This instrument commences at the start of the day after the day it is registered on the Federal Register of Legislation.

This instrument is made under subsection 99(1) of the Telecommunications Act 1997.
The instrument that is specified in Schedule 1 to this instrument is amended as set out in the applicable items in that Schedule.

Insert:
accredited entity has the meaning affected by section 9 of the Digital ID Act.
accredited identity exchange provider has the meaning given by section 9 of the Digital ID Act.
accredited service has the meaning given by section 9 of the Digital ID Act.
Digital ID of an individual has the meaning given by section 9 of the Digital ID Act.
Note An example of a Digital ID includes a digital driver’s licence that has been issued under a law of a State or a Territory.
Digital ID Act means the Digital ID Act 2024.
Digital ID service means an accredited service provided by an accredited entity.
identity service provider has the meaning given by section 9 of the Digital ID Act.
2 Schedule 1 (after item 8)
Insert:
9 | “Government-accredited Digital ID service”
Note An identity service provider that is not an accredited identity service provider may use an accredited entity to verify a service activator’s identity. Item 9 enables a carriage service provider to rely on such identity service providers to facilitate the verification of a service activator’s identity, so long as the verification is undertaken in accordance with the Digital ID Act. |
