Part 1Preliminary

  This instrument is the Veterans’ Entitlements (Direct Deductions Arrangements) Approval 2025.

  This instrument commences on the day after the day it is registered.

  This instrument is made under section 122B of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986.

  The Veterans’ Entitlements (Direct Deductions Arrangements) Instrument 2015 (Instrument 2015 No. R23) is repealed.

Note: A number of expressions used in this instrument are defined in the Act, including the following:

  1.       child;
  2.      Commission;

(c) dependant;

(d) service pension;

(e) veteran payment.

  In this instrument:

Act means the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986.

attendant allowance means an allowance under section 98 of the Act.

clothing allowance means an allowance under section 97 of the Act.

decoration allowance means an allowance under section 102 of the Act.

disability compensation payment means any of the following:

  1.     a pension under Part II or IV of the Act (other than a pension payable at a rate determined in accordance with section 30 of the Act to a dependant of a deceased veteran);
  2.     a pension payable because of subsection 4(6) or (8B) of the Veterans’ Entitlements (Transitional Provisions and Consequential Amendments) Act 1986 (other than a pension payable in respect of a child).

income support supplement means a payment under Part IIIA of the Act.

pensions payable to dependants of deceased veterans means pensions payable at a rate determined in accordance with subsection 30(1) or paragraph 30(2)(a) of the Act.

recreation transport allowance means an allowance under section 104 of the Act.

State Housing Authority means an authority listed in the definition of Government rent in subsection 5N(1) of the Act.

Veterans’ Children Education Scheme allowance means an allowance that is payable by instalments under the Scheme established by the Commission under section 117 of the Act.


Part 2—Approved classes of pensions, allowances and pecuniary benefits from which deductions may be made

  For section 122B of the Act, the following are approved classes of pensions, allowances or pecuniary benefits:

 (a) attendant allowances;

 (b) clothing allowances;

 (c) decoration allowances;

 (d) disability compensation payments;

 (e) income support supplements;

 (f) pensions payable to dependants of deceased veterans;

 (g) recreation transport allowances;

 (h) service pensions;

 (i) veteran payments;

 (j) Veterans' Children Education Scheme allowances.

 

 

 


Part 3—Classes of payments for which deductions may be made

  For section 122B of the Act, the following are approved classes of payments:

 (a) payments to a State Housing Authority that are—

 (i) payments of rent;

 (ii) payments for principal or interest of a loan; or

 (iii) payments for a debt;

 (b) payments to Westpac Banking Corporation (ABN 33 007 457 141) that are—

 (i) payments for principal or interest of a loan; or

 (ii) payments of insurance premiums.
