1  Name

  This instrument is the Industry Research and Development (Future Battery Industries Demonstrator Program) Instrument 2025.

2  Commencement

 (1) Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Note: This table relates only to the provisions of this instrument as originally made. It will not be amended to deal with any later amendments of this instrument.

 (2) Any information in column 3 of the table is not part of this instrument. Information may be inserted in this column, or information in it may be edited, in any published version of this instrument.

3  Authority

  This instrument is made under section 33 of the Industry Research and Development Act 1986.

4  Definitions

  In this instrument:

ACCC means the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.

Act means the Industry Research and Development Act 1986.

program: see subsection 5(1).

5  Prescribed program

 (1) For the purposes of subsection 33(1) of the Act, the Future Battery Industries Demonstrator Program (the program) is prescribed.

 (2) The program provides funding to support the Australian battery industry to foster international and interstate supply chains, including:

 (a) a battery supply chain navigator tool to map industry and research capability and supply chains, as well as government battery projects and programs to support the Australian battery ecosystem;

 (b) an innovation and scale‑up program to provide resources and advice on commercialisation and deliver an annual industry showcase;

 (c) best practice guidelines and standards to guide the industry on how to safely install, maintain, transport and handle batteries in response to the ACCC’s battery safety recommendations.             

 (3) The purpose of the program is to strengthen the Australian battery industry by improving alignment and access to information on national capabilities and supply chains, providing industry and investor access to capability, customers, traceability, and environmental, social and governance information on battery minerals source and components, supporting the commercialisation of innovative battery technologies through enhanced research and collaboration, and improving battery‑safety through nationally consistent best practice guidelines and standards.

6  Specified legislative power

  For the purposes of subsection 33(3) of the Act, the power of the Parliament to make laws with respect to trade and commerce with other countries, and among the States (within the meaning of paragraph 51(i) of the Constitution) is specified.
