Marine Orders Amendment (Marine Order 505 — consequential changes) Order 2022

I, Michael Kinley, Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, (the National Marine Safety Regulator under section 9 of the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law), make this Marine Order under subsection 163(1) of the Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessel) National Law and under subsection 342(1) of the Navigation Act 2012.

1 Name of Marine Order

  This Marine Order is Marine Orders Amendment (Marine Order 505 — consequential changes) Order 2022.

2 Commencement

  This Marine Order commences immediately after the commencement of Marine Order 505 (Certificates of competency  national law) 2022.

3 Amendment of Marine Orders

  Each Marine Order mentioned in Schedule 1 to this Marine Order is amended in accordance with the Schedule.

Rule 1 means that, if the chief engineer holds a certificate permitting the holder to be the chief mate, the number of certificated crew for the vessel may be reduced by 1 if the number of uncertificated crew is increased by 1.

Rule 2 applies only to a vessel with ≤ 750 kW propulsion power and means that, if the master holds a certificate permitting the holder to be the chief engineer, the number of certificated crew and master for the vessel may be reduced by 1 if the number of uncertificated crew is increased by 1.
