1  Name

  This is the Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits (Surcharge Deduction Amount—Conversion Factors) Determination 2015.

2  Commencement

 (1) Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

  This instrument is made under the Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits Act 1973.

  Each instrument that is specified in a Schedule to this instrument is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this instrument has effect according to its terms.

5  Age when benefit becomes payable

  For the purposes of this instrument, the age of a member of the scheme when a benefit becomes payable to, or in respect of, the member is:

 (a) if the benefit becomes payable in respect of the member because the member died:

 (i) if the member died on the day before his or her birthday—the age the member would have been on that birthday, had he or she not died; or

 (ii) otherwise—the age of the member on the member’s last birthday before the benefit becomes payable; or

 (b) otherwise:

 (i) if the benefit becomes payable on the member’s birthday—the age of the member on that day; or

 (ii) otherwise—the age of the member on the member’s last birthday before the benefit becomes payable.

6  Conversion factors

  For subsection 124A(1) of the Defence Force Retirement and Death Benefits Act 1973, the conversion factor that is applicable in relation to a member of the scheme is the factor set out in the following table for the age of the member when a benefit becomes payable to, or in respect of, the member.
