Determination  by  the  National  Standards  Commission

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NATIONAL  STANDARDS  COMMISSION (‘the Commission”) of 12 Lyon Park Road, North Ryde, in the State of New South Wales, is a body established under the National Measurement Act 1960.

 

Sub-regulation 19(2) of the National Measurement Regulations 1999 provides that the Commission shall determine the manner in which the accuracy of reference standards of measurement must be ascertained and expressed:

 

Pursuant to sub-regulation 19(2), the accuracy of a reference standard of measurement must be ascertained and expressed in a manner determined in writing by the Commission.

 

By an instrument dated 23 June 1994 under the National Measurement Regulations in power at the time, the Commission determined:

 

“…the accuracy of a reference standard of measurement shall be ascertained on the basis that there are not more than 5 chances in 100 that the verified value of the standard of measurement differs from the true value by more that the calculated uncertainty”.

 

The Commission is cognizant of changes in international practice regarding the manner in which the accuracy of reference standards of measurement is ascertained and expressed.

 

It is desirable to revoke the instrument of 23 June 1994 and issue a new determination.


 

 

 

 

THE  COMMISSION  HEREBY:

 

(a)               REVOKES the determination of 23 June 1994 made under sub-regulation 80(9) of the National Measurement Regulations in power at that time; and
 

(b)               DETERMINES that

 

The accuracy of reference standards of measurement shall be ascertained in accordance with the principles in the ISO Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (1995), with an interval estimated to have a confidence level of 95% at the time of verification.

 

 

 

This determination is effective from 24 May 2002
