Currency Determination No. 1 of 1992

I, ROBERT FRANCIS McMULLAN, Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, acting for and on behalf of the Treasurer, make the following Determination under section 13A of the Currency Act 1965.

Citation

  1.    This Determination may be cited as Currency Determination No. 1 of 1992.

Commencement

2.       This Determination commences on 14 April 1992.

Interpretation

3.       In this Determination:

"5 dollar satellite coin" means a coin of the denomination of $5 whose:

(a)    composition is copper, aluminium and nickel; and

(b)    standard weight is specified in clause 4; and

(c)    dimensions are specified in clause 5; and

(d)    design is specified in clause 6.

Standard weight of 5 dollar satellite coin

4.    (1) The standard weight of the 5 dollar satellite coin is 28.00 grams.

(2) A variation of 0.80 grams from the standard weight is allowable.

Dimensions of 5 dollar satellite coin

5.    (1) The diameter of the S dollar satellite coin is 38.90 millimetres.

(2) The thickness of the coin is 3.50 millimetres.

Design of 5 dollar satellite coin

6.    (1) The shape of the 5 dollar satellite coin is circular.

(2)   The edge of the coin is milled.

(3)   The obverse of the coin bears an effigy of the Queen and the inscriptions "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA" and "1992".

(4)   The reverse of the coin bears a representation of a group of satellites in the form of the Southern Cross orbiting a globally rendered Australian continent and the inscription "5 DOLLARS".
