AIRWORTHINESS DIRECTIVE

For the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below issues the following Airworthiness Directive (AD) under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998.  The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Applicability:

Model 206A, 206B, 206L, 206L-1, 206L-3, and 206L-4 helicopters.

Requirement:

1. Determine if the upper left hand tailboom attachment fitting is a CRES steel fitting, part number 407-030-750-103.

If a CRES fitting is installed, inspect the bolt and, if required, correct the washer installation in accordance with Part I of Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Alert Service Bulletin 206-06-110 or 206L-06-140, as applicable; or later Transport Canada approved revisions.

If replacement is necessary as a result of the bolt inspection, proceed as follows:

2. Replace the upper left hand bolt in accordance with Part II of Bell Helicopter Textron Canada Alert Service Bulletin 206-06-110 or 206L-06-140, as applicable; or later Transport Canada approved revisions.

3. Perform a torque check of the upper left hand tailboom attaching hardware in accordance with the applicable maintenance manual.

Note:  Transport Canada AD CF-2007-01 refers.

Compliance:

1. Within 50 hours time in service after 10 May 2007, unless already accomplished.

2. At the next scheduled 100-hour inspection or annual inspection, whichever occurs first; following accomplishment of Part I of the applicable Requirement document.

3. At the next scheduled 100-hour inspection following bolt replacement.

This Airworthiness Directive becomes effective on 7 June 2007.

Background:

The manufacturer has determined that some helicopters that have a CRES steel fitting installed at the upper left hand location of the tailboom, may have an attachment bolt that does not meet the design criteria.
