Determination 2005/18:
Remuneration and Allowances for Holders of Public Office and Members of Parliament
(i) Pursuant to subsections 7(1), 7(2), 7(3) and 7(4) of the Remuneration Tribunal Act 1973, the Remuneration Tribunal has inquired into the remuneration and allowances to be paid to holders of public office, and other matters significantly related thereto, and determines as set out below.
(ii) This Determination takes effect on and from 15 December 2005 unless otherwise specified.
PART 1 – MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT
1.1 In this part, Determination Number 8 of 2005 (as amended) is referred to as the Principal Determination.
1.2 Clause 2.15 of the Principal Determination is amended by deleting the current clause and inserting the following in its place:
“A senator from the Northern Territory or the Member for Lingiari who visits the Cocos (Keeling) Islands and/or Christmas Island and the Member for Canberra or a senator from the Australian Capital Territory who visits Norfolk Island for electorate business shall be paid additional travelling allowance up to a maximum of:
a) in the case of a senator from the Northern Territory or the Member for Lingiari, eighteen overnight stays per annum; and
b) in the case of a senator from the Australian Capital Territory or the Member for Canberra, eleven overnight stays per annum;
unless prevailing airline schedules prevent the senator or member from completing his or her journey within that maximum number of overnights stays. This entitlement shall apply to senators from the Northern Territory and the Australian Capital Territory only while the total representation from those Territories in both Houses does not exceed eight senators and members in the Parliament.”
PART 2 – PART TIME OFFICES
2.1 In this part, Determination Number 5 of 2005 (as amended) is referred to as the Principal Determination.
2.2 Table A1A of Schedule A of the Principal Determination is amended by omitting the entry for ‘National Competition Council (President/Councillor) 7’ in Column 1 and the associated entries ’72,230’ and ‘p/a’ in Columns 2 and 3 and substituting the entries ‘National Competition Council’ , ‘-‘ and ‘-‘ in Columns 1, 2 and 3 respectively.
2.3 Table A1A of Schedule A of the Principal Determination is amended by omitting the entry for ‘Disability Standards Review Panels 25’ in Column 1 and the associated entry ‘434’ in Column 2 and substituting the entries ‘Disability Standards Review Panel’ and ‘615’ in Columns 1 and 2 respectively.
2.4 Table A1A of Schedule A of the Principal Determination is amended by omitting the current wording of footnotes 7 and 25 to Table A1A. This will cause the other current footnotes to be renumbered sequentially.
2.5 Clauses 2.2, 2.3 and 2.4 take effect on and from 1 January 2006.
2.6 Table A1A of Schedule A of the Principal Determination is amended by omitting the entries in Column 1 for ‘National Occupational Health and Safety Commission’, for ‘Government’s Civics Education Group’, and for ‘Steering Committee on Community Civics Education’, and all their associated entries.
2.7 Table A1A of Schedule A of the Principal Determination is amended by including the following entries at the end of the Table:

2.8 Table A1A of Schedule A of the Principal Determination is amended by including the following footnotes:
42 Teaching Australia: While Professor Gregor Ramsey is Chair he will receive the Chair’s fee plus an additional loading of 70%. The Chair is entitled to Tier 1 travel. The Deputy Chair will receive the Member’s fee plus an additional loading of 100%.
43 ASCC: The Deputy Chair will receive $27,810 per annum.
PART 3 – JUDICIAL AND RELATED OFFICES
3.1 In this part, Determination Number 11 of 2005 (as amended) is referred to as the Principal Determination.
3.2 Table 1 of the Principal Determination is amended by omitting $223,360 in Column 3 and $882 in Column 4 and substituting $227,828 and $900 respectively against the entry for Judicial Registrar of the Family Court of Australia.
3.3 Under the heading for Table 1 of the Principal Determination, delete “Effective on and from 1 July 2005” and replace with “Effective on and from 30 September 2005”.
