REGULATIONS UNDER THE AIR FORCE ACT 1923-1956.

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby, make the following Regulations under the Air Force Act 1923-1956.

Amendments of the Air Force Regulations.†

Parts.

1. Regulation 2 of the Air Force Regulations is amended by omitting the words and figures—

"Division 12.—Citizen Air Force—Regulations 646-663." and inserting in their stead the words and figures—

"Division 12.—Citizen. Air Force—Regulations 646-648.".

Repeal of regulation 453b.

2. Regulation 453b of the Air Force Regulations is repealed.

3. Division 12 of Part XI. of the Air Force Regulations is repealed and the following Division is inserted in its stead:—

"Division 12.—Citizen Air Force.

Rates of pay.

"646.—(1.) The daily rate of active pay for a member of the Citizen Air Force shall, subject to this regulation and to regulation 539, be the same as the rate prescribed for a member of the same rank or classification and branch, group or mustering, as the case may be, in the Permanent Air Force on appointment to that rank or classification and branch, group or mustering.

"(2.) The rate of pay of the Citizen Air Force Member of the Air Board shall be Three hundred and thirty-five pounds per annum.

"(3.) Where a member of the Citizen Air Force volunteers and is accepted for continuous full-time service with the Permanent Air Force in accordance with regulation 458 for a period of not less than six months

he may be granted during the period of such service active pay according to service in rank under the same conditions as apply to a member of the same rank or classification and branch, group or mustering, in the Permanent Air Force.

"(4.) The daily rates of pay under sub-regulation (1.) of this regulation are payable for such periods of training or service, or for such periods of incapacity caused through an injury or illness arising out of or in the course of training or service, as the Air Board determines and subject to such conditions as the Air Board determines.

"(5.) For the purposes of this regulation, an air cadet of the Citizen Air Force shall be deemed to hold a rank equivalent to that of aircraftman (recruit) in the Permanent Air Force.

Allowances and other benefits.

"647.—(1.) Where a member of the Citizen Air Force volunteers and is accepted for continuous full-time service with the Permanent Air Force in accordance with regulation 458 for a period of not less than six months he may be paid during the period of such service the allowances, other than uniform allowance, prescribed for a member of the same rank in the Permanent Air Force.

"(2.) A member of the Citizen Air Force, other than a member to whom sub-regulation (1.) of this regulation applies, may be paid the following allowances at the rates prescribed for members of the Permanent Air Force:—

(a) marriage allowance;

(b) separation allowance;

(c) living out allowance;

(d) travelling allowance;

(e) meal allowance;

(f) retention of lodgings allowance;

(g) allowance for use of own conveyance; and

(h) allowance for medical and dental officers.

"(3.) An officer of the medical branch of the Citizen Air Force may be paid an allowance at a rate determined by the Air Board where it is necessary for him to employ a locum tenens while he is undergoing training of a continuous nature with the Citizen Air Force.

"(4.) A member of the Reserve who is employed as an instructor in the Air Training Corps and who attends training parades of that Corps in respect of which he is not otherwise entitled to pay may be paid an allowance at the rate specified in relation to his rank or appointment in the following table:—

"(5.) A member of the Citizen Air Force who is classified as above normal in efficiency in the performance of his duties and the exercise of his responsibilities and maintains an unblemished disciplinary record may be paid an efficiency allowance at the rate of Ten pounds per annum.

"(6.) The entitlement of a member of the Citizen Air Force to the allowances and other benefits prescribed in this regulation is subject to conditions determined by the Air Board.

Issue of uniforms and necessaries.

"648.—(1.) A member of the Citizen Air Force may be issued free with items of uniform and necessaries and shall be entitled to free replacement of those items, according to such scales of free issue and free replacement as are authorized by the Air Board.

"(2.) In lieu of receiving a free issue of articles of uniform and necessaries an officer of the Citizen Air Force may purchase privately such of those articles as are authorized by the Air Board to be purchased and may be refunded the actual cost of the articles, not exceeding the vocabulary price approved by the Air Board.

"(3.) A member whose service in the Citizen Air Force is terminated may retain such items of uniform and necessaries as the Air Board approves—

(a) free of charge; or

(b) on payment by the member of the unexpired value of the items calculated according to a scale approved by the Air Board.

"(4.) An amount payable by a member under the last preceding sub-regulation may, without prejudice to any other means of recovery, be deducted from the pay or allowances, accrued or accruing to the member under these Regulations.".

Commencement.

4. These Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of July, 1960.
