REGULATIONS UNDER THE EXCISE ACT 1901-1934.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Excise Act 1901-1934.

Amendments of the Excise Regulations 1925.†

Repeal of regulation 20a.

1. Regulation 20a of the Excise Regulations 1925 is repealed.

Method of destruction of stalks, &c., from Australian leaf.

2. After regulation 32 of the Excise Regulations 1925, the following regulation is inserted:—

32a. Stalks, refuse, clippings or waste arising from the processing of Australian leaf in any factory shall, when directed by the Collector, be dealt with in accordance with sub-regulations (2.) and (3.) of regulation 29 and regulations 30 and 31 of these Regulations..

Treatment of Australian leaf tobacco for special purposes.

3. Regulation 36 of the Excise Regulations 1925 is amended by omitting the symbols and figure (3.) and inserting in their stead the symbols and figure (2.).

Payment for officer’s services.

4. Regulation 111 of the Excise Regulations 1925 is repealed.

Spirit for use in public hospitals.

5. Regulation 117 of the Excise Regulations 1925 is amended by inserting, after the word spirit, the words “, Australian methylated spirit.

Repeal of regulations.

6. Regulations 126f, 160e and 165 of the Excise Regulations 1925 are repealed.

7. Regulation 166 of the Excise Regulations 1925 is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

Security to be given.

166. Before a licence to manufacture petrol is issued, security to the satisfaction of the Collector, for compliance with the Act and the Regulations, shall be furnished by the applicant..

Repeal of regulations 177b and 177c.

8. Regulations 177b and 177c of the Excise Regulations 1925 are repealed.

Application of certain regulations.

9. Regulation 177w of the Excise Regulations 1925 is repealed and the following regulation inserted in its stead:—

177w. Regulations 177l to 177n (inclusive), 177p to 177s (inclusive), 177u and 177v of these Regulations shall apply, mutatis mutandis, to the manufacture of cigarette tubes, paper and papers..

10. After regulation 209 of the Excise Regulations 1925 the following regulation is inserted:—

Payment for services of officer.

209a. Subject to the provisions of regulations 31, 37, 65 and 69 of these Regulations, a manufacturer at whose factory the services of an officer are required, shall, if called upon by the Collector so to do, pay for those services at the rate of three shillings per hour or part of an hour during which the officer is engaged at the factory and also the cost of the conveyance of the officer to and from the factory..

Repeal of regulation 215.

11. Regulation 215 of the Excise Regulations 1925 is repealed.
