Health Insurance Commission Regulations2

(Amendment)

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulation under the Health Insurance Commission Act 1973.

The Health Insurance Commission Regulations are amended by inserting after regulation 3a the following regulations:

Additional functions of the Commission: health program grants

3b. For the purposes of subsection 8e (1) of the Act, the following functions are prescribed, namely, to process, on behalf of the Minister administering Part IV of the Health Insurance Act, claims for payment under that Part in relation to costs of the provision of radiation oncology services submitted to the Department under subsection 45 (1) of that Act and on behalf of that Minister, to make payments of those claims.

Additional functions of the Commission: allocation of numbers

“3c. For the purposes of subsection 8e (1) of the Act, the following functions are prescribed:

(a) the allocation of identification numbers, for the purposes of the National Health Act 1958, to medical practitioners within the meaning of that Act and participating dental practitioners within the meaning of Part VII of that Act;

(b) the allocation of identification numbers, for the purposes of the Health Insurance Act to persons who are practitioners, approved pathology practitioners or participating optometrists within the meaning of that Act, in respect of the particular places of practice of those persons..
