1 Name
This instrument is Prescription of Qualification Standards (Synthetic Trainers) Instrument 2022.
2 Commencement
This instrument commences on the day after it is registered.
3 Definitions
In this instrument:
FSD-2 means the document entitled Operational Standards and Requirements—Approved Synthetic Trainers (FSD2) published by CASA as existing from time to time.
synthetic trainer has the meaning given by regulation 2 of CAR.
4 Prescription of qualification standards for synthetic trainers
For the purposes of regulation 61.045 of CASR, the qualification standards set out in FSD-2 are prescribed as the qualification standards for synthetic trainers.

5 Transitional — approved synthetic trainers
(1) A synthetic trainer that was, immediately before the commencement of this instrument, the subject of an approval under CAO 45.0 (an approved synthetic trainer), is taken:
(a) to meet the qualification standards prescribed by section 4; and
(b) to continue as a flight simulation training device (within the meaning of paragraph (d) of that term as defined in regulation 61.010) on and from that commencement subject to the same terms and conditions as applied under the approval immediately before that commencement.
(2) In this section:
CAO 45.0 means section 45.0 of the Civil Aviation Orders as set out in Schedule 1 of Civil Aviation Amendment Order (No. 2) 2004 (assigned the FRL number F2005B00648).
