This instrument amends the Electoral and Referendum Regulation 2016 to prescribe a permitted purpose for which the Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated may use Electoral Roll information it is given under subsection 90B(4) of the Commonwealth Electoral Act 1918 for the purposes of conducting the Australian Survey of Social Attitudes.

1  Name

                   This instrument is the Electoral and Referendum Amendment (Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated) Regulations 2021.

2  Commencement

             (1)  Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

Electoral and Referendum Regulation 2016

1  After section 10

Insert:

10A  Permitted purpose for use of information—Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated

             (1)  For the purposes of paragraph 91A(2A)(c) of the Act, the purpose of inviting persons to participate in the Australian Survey of Social Attitudes is prescribed for the Australian Consortium for Social and Political Research Incorporated.

             (2)  This section is repealed at the start of the day after the end of the period of 12 months starting on the day this section commences.
