These regulations amend the Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998 to extend the current transition arrangements that allow CASA to grant limited Part 66 aircraft engineer licence to people who have already commenced training and examinations under the Civil Aviation Regulations 1988, for a period of 12 months until 30 June 2021.

1  Name

                   This instrument is the Civil Aviation Safety Amendment (Part 66 Transition Extension) Regulations 2020.

2  Commencement

             (1)  Each provision of this instrument specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

3  Authority

                   This instrument is made under the Civil Aviation Act 1988.

4  Schedules

                   Each instrument that is specified in a Schedule to this instrument is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this instrument has effect according to its terms.

Civil Aviation Safety Regulations 1998

1  Subregulation 202.345(1)

After “may”, insert “, on or before 30 June 2021,”.

2  After subregulation 202.345(1)

Insert:

          (1A)  Despite regulation 66.025, CASA may, on or after 1 July 2021, grant a category B1 or B2 licence to a person if:

                     (a)  the person applies for the licence on or before 30 June 2021; and

                     (b)  CASA does not finally determine the application on or before 30 June 2021; and

                     (c)  on 30 June 2021, the person meets the requirements mentioned in subregulation (1) of this regulation.

3  Subregulation 202.345(3)

Omit “3 July 2020”, substitute “1 July 2022”.
