These regulations amend the Patents Regulations 1991 to implement amendments to the Patents Act 1990 (Patents Act) by the Intellectual Property Laws Amendment (Productivity Commission Response Part 2 and Other Measures) Act 2020. The regulations amend formality requirements for patent applications to commence the abolishing of the innovation patent system; make the regulations governing Crown use and compulsory licensing consistent with the amended provisions of the Patents Act; and remove a requirement to file a certificate of verification with a translated patent document.
