This instrument specifies the rate per kilometre to be used for calculating the amount of compensation payable for travel to obtain medical treatment under subsection 16(6) of the Safety, Rehabilitation and Compensation (Defence-related Claims) Act 1988. The rate per kilometre specified by the instrument is 60 cents. The instrument will commence on 1 April 2019 to coincide with the commencement of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation (Specified Rate per Kilometre) Determination 2019. This will ensure alignment of future sunset dates for this instrument and the equivalent instrument under the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2004.
