This instrument amends Part 2 of the List of Specimens Taken to be Suitable for Live Import (29/11/2001) established under section 303EB of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 by adding Okapia johnstoni (Okapi) to the List of Specimens taken to be Suitable for Live Import and updates the reference to Biosecurity Act 2015 in Parts 1 and 2. This instrument allows live specimens of Okapia johnstoni to be imported into Australia under Part 2 of the Live Import List.

List of Specimens taken to be Suitable for Live Import Amendment                  (Okapi) Instrument 2018

 

I, Melissa Price, Minister for the Environment, pursuant to subparagraph 303EC(1)(a)(i) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and having considered a report under subparagraph 303EC5(a) of that Act, make the following amendments to the List of Specimens Taken to be Suitable for Live Import (29/11/2001):

 

1.      Part 2 of the List: Under the heading ‘Vertebrate Animals Mammals (Mammalia)’ in the appropriate alphabetic position:

 

Add:

Conditions for Import

Okapia johnstoni

Okapi

Eligible non-commercial purpose only, excluding household pets.

 

2.      Part 1 of the List: Under the heading ‘Plants’:

 

Remove:

Part 1 of this list is taken to include any live plant the introduction of which into Australia is in accordance with the Quarantine Act 1908, provided the plant is not included in the list of CITES specimens under this Act.

 

Add:

Part 1 of this list is taken to include any live plant the introduction of which into Australia is in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 2015, provided the plant is not included in the list of CITES species established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.

 

3.      Part 2 of the List: Under the heading ‘Plants’.

 

Remove

Part 2 of this list is taken to include any live plant included on the list of CITES specimens under this Act, provided the introduction of the plant into Australia is in accordance with the Quarantine Act 1908.

 

Add:

Part 2 of this list is taken to include any live plant included on the list of CITES species established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, provided the introduction of the plant into Australia is in accordance with the Biosecurity Act 2015.

 

This instrument commences the day after registration.
