1 Name
This is the Broadcasting Services (Meaning of Local) Instrument 2018.
2 Commencement
This instrument commences at the start of the day after it is registered on the Federal Register of Legislation.

3 Authority
This instrument is made under subsection 61CC(1) of the Act.
4 Repeal of the Broadcasting Services (Meaning of Local) Instrument 2007
The Broadcasting Services (Meaning of Local) Instrument 2007 (Registration No. F2007L04527) is repealed.
5 Purpose and application of instrument
This instrument defines what is meant by the expression local for the purposes of Subdivision B of Division 5C of Part 5 of the Act for the licence areas specified in Schedule 1.
Note: Division 5C of Part 5 of the Act does not apply to:
(a) a licence allocated under subsection 40(1) of the Act (see section 50A of the Act);
(b) a remote area service radio licence (see paragraph 61CAA(a) of the Act); or
(c) a regional racing service radio licence (see paragraph 61CAA(b) of the Act).
6 Definitions
In this instrument:
Act means the Broadcasting Services Act 1992 as in force from time to time; and
licensee means a holder of a regional commercial radio broadcasting licence.
Note: A number of other expressions used in this instrument are defined in the Act. The expression ‘licence area’ is defined in subsection 6(1) of the Act, and the following expressions are defined in section 61CA of the Act:
(a) community service announcement;
(b) designated local content program;
(c) news bulletin;
(d) regional commercial radio broadcasting licence;
(e) regional licence area; and
(f) weather bulletin.
