This determination sets out the detailed rules for implementing and monitoring offsets projects that avoid greenhouse gas emissions by sorting organic waste at its point of origin and diverting it away from landfill. By sending separated organic waste to eligible alternative treatments, such as charity use of food or composting, projects avoid the generation of methane due to anaerobic decomposition of organic waste in landfill.
