This instrument makes the recovery plan for the Blue Whale and sets out the research and management actions necessary to stop the decline of, and support the recovery of this Endangered species, including actions to manage and reduce threatening processes. The long-term recovery objective for blue whales is to minimise anthropogenic threats to allow for their conservation status to improve so that they can be removed from the EPBC Act threatened species list.

Section 269A

Instrument making recovery plan

 

I, Greg Hunt, Minister for the Environment, according to:

(a)  section 269A(2) of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (Cth), make a recovery plan for Balaenoptera musculus – Blue Whale (endangered) entitled “Conservation Management Plan for the Blue Whale”.

The recovery plan specified in paragraph (a) will come into force on the day after the plan is registered on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments or on 1 October 2015, whichever is the later.
