This reserve is the Southern Kangaroo Island Commonwealth Marine Reserve.

Part 2—Western Kangaroo Island Commonwealth Marine Reserve

The Southern Kangaroo Island Commonwealth Marine Reserve consists of an area in the Southern Ocean bounded by the line commencing at the point described in item 1 of the following table and running progressively as described in the table.

2.1 Name of reserve

2.2 IUCN category

The Western Kangaroo Island Commonwealth Marine Reserve is assigned to IUCN category VI (managed resource protected area).

2.3 Area of reserve

2.4 Zones for reserve

(1) The Western Kangaroo Island Commonwealth Marine Reserve is divided into the following zones:

(a) the marine national park zone described in clause 2.5 of this Part;

(b) the special purpose zone described in clause 2.6 of this Part.

(2) The marine national park zone is assigned to IUCN category II (national park).

(3) The special purpose zone is assigned to IUCN category VI (managed resource protected area).

(1) The Western Eyre Commonwealth Marine Reserve is divided into the following zones:

(a) the special purpose zone described in clause 3.5 of this Part;

(b) the marine national park zones described in clauses 3.6, 3.7 and 3.9 of this Part;

(2) The special purpose zone described in clause 3.5 of this Part is assigned to IUCN category VI (managed resource protected area).

(3) The marine national park zones described in clauses 3.6, 3.7 and 3.9 of this Part are each assigned to IUCN category II (national park).

(4) The multiple use zone described in clause 3.8 of this Part is assigned to IUCN category VI (managed resource protected area).

7.4 Zones for reserve

(1) The Eastern Recherche Commonwealth Marine Reserve is divided into the following zones:

(2) The special purpose zone is assigned to IUCN category VI (managed resource protected area).

(3) The marine national park zones are each assigned to IUCN category II (national park).

The South‑west Corner Commonwealth Marine Reserve is assigned to IUCN category II (national park).

(1) The South‑west Corner Commonwealth Marine Reserve is divided into the following zones:

(b) the multiple use zones described in clauses 8.6 and 8.15 of this Part;

(d) the special purpose zones described in clauses 8.14 and 8.16 of this Part;

(e) the habitat protection zone described in clause 8.12 of this Part.

(2) The marine national park zones are each assigned to IUCN category II (national park).

(3) The multiple use zones, special purpose zones (oil and gas exclusion) and special purpose zones are each assigned to IUCN category VI (managed resource protected area).

(4) The habitat protection zone is assigned to IUCN category IV (habitat/species management area).

Schedule 4—Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve

This reserve is the Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve.

Note: Section 7 states the purposes of the reserve, section 8 states the depth of any land that may be included in the reserve and section 9 states the depth of the seabed included in the reserve.

The Coral Sea Commonwealth Marine Reserve is assigned to IUCN category II (national park).

Note: Regulation 10.03H of the regulations lists each IUCN category and Schedule 8 to the regulations sets out the Australian IUCN reserve management principles for each IUCN category.
