CANBERRA  ACT  2600

Dear Sir/Madam

Social Security (Declared Overseas Terrorist Act) Declaration 2013, Social Security (Declared Overseas Terrorist Act) Declaration 2013 – Nairobi and Social Security (Declared Overseas Terrorist Act) Declaration 2013 – Jakarta – Tabling revised explanatory statements

On 12 December 2013, the Secretary of the Senate Standing Committee on Regulations and Ordinances wrote to the office of the Minister for Social Services requesting a response to the issues in the Delegated Legislation Monitor No. 8 of 2013 about the Social Security (Declared Overseas Terrorist Act) Declaration 2013, Social Security (Declared Overseas Terrorist Act) Declaration 2013 – Nairobi and Social Security (Declared Overseas Terrorist Act) Declaration 2013 – Jakarta.  The Minister referred the matter to the Attorney-General’s Department as the policy responsibility for that lies with this Department.  The explanatory statements to the instruments provided no information on consultation as required by the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.  All three instruments were tabled in the House in the week ending 25 October 2013.

The explanatory statements accompanying each instrument have been revised to include details of the consultation that has been undertaken.

As the instruments were made by the Prime Minister, the revised explanatory statements were approved by the Parliamentary Secretary, the Hon Josh Frydenberg MP and forwarded to the Committee Chair on 24 February 2014.

I kindly request that you please make arrangements to table the revised explanatory statements in the House at the next available opportunity.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions or require further information.

Thank you for your assistance with this matter.

Yours sincerely

Annette Willing
