On the effective date specified below, and for the reasons set out in the background section, the CASA delegate whose signature appears below repeals Airworthiness

Directive (AD) AD/B737/42 and issues the following AD under subregulation 39.001(1) of CASR 1998 and subsection 33(3) of the Acts Interpretation Act

1901. The AD requires that the action set out in the requirement section (being action that the delegate considers necessary to correct the unsafe condition) be taken

in relation to the aircraft or aeronautical product mentioned in the applicability section: (a) in the circumstances mentioned in the requirement section; and (b) in

accordance with the instructions set out in the requirement section; and (c) at the time mentioned in the compliance section.

Escape Slide Release Cable




All models, equipped with escape slide release cables.


Action in accordance with the technical requirements of FAA Airworthiness Directive (AD) 90-12-11 R1 Amdt 39-6683.


This AD effectivity excludes forward entry and service doors that have been modified with the new chain assembly in accordance with Boeing Service Bulletin
737-25A1270 Revision 2.

This AD effectivity excludes Model 737-600/700/800 airplanes.


As specified in the Requirement document.

The effective date of this Amendment is 30 September 2013.


Country of origin AD.  Frayed and broken cables if not replaced could result in an escape slide not releasing from the door and blocking the exit during an emergency evacuation.

This amendment is issued to exempt aircraft fitted with a release latch device with a chain design instead of a cable from inspection.  The cable is susceptible to fraying while the chain design has eliminated the fraying problem.
