Under subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965, the Assistant Treasurer has made a determination regarding the specification of coins proposed to be issued by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM).

Subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965 requires that the determination provides details of the coins’ characteristics, including standard composition, standard weight, allowable variation from standard weight, design and dimensions.

This determination is a disallowable instrument for the purposes of section 42 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003.

50c Coin

2011 50c Cupro/Nickel Uncirculated Coloured Coin – 50 Years of the Triple Zero (000) Emergency Call Service

 

REVERSE

A coloured representation of the triple zero emergency service logo, the words ‘POLICE’, ‘AMBULANCE’ and ‘FIRE’ and a check pattern for each of the services. The design features the inscriptions ‘50’ and ‘50 YEARS OF THE TRIPLE ZERO (000) EMERGENCY CALL SERVICE’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘ELIZABETH II’, ‘Australia 2011’ and the initials of the designer Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

$1 Coin

2011 $1 Fine Silver Proof Coin – 50th Anniversary of World Wildlife Fund

 

REVERSE

A design consisting of the World Wildlife Fund  logo, which is made up of a giant panda. The design includes the copyright symbol, which is made up of a circle enclosing the letter ‘C’ and the registered trademark symbol, which is made up of a circle enclosing the letter ‘R’. Surrounding the central logo a representation of 60 snubfin dolphins arranged in a repetitive circular pattern wherein the dolphins increase in size, face the right and change direction to the left after every 12th dolphin. The following inscriptions are also included: ‘50th ANNIVERSARY OF WWF’, ‘ONE DOLLAR’ and the designer’s initials ‘WP’.

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘ELIZABETH II’, ‘Australia 2011’, and the initials of the designer Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

 

Consultation

 

No public consultation was undertaken in relation to the currency determination. The effect of this instrument is to determine the weight, design and dimension of coins to enable the Royal Australian Mint to continue its production of circulating and numismatic coins. The Mint receives public submissions on coin designs and determines appropriate designs in accordance with its Coin Design Policy. The Mint used market based tools to identify interested parties and gauge interest in coin themes.

 

The determination commences on the day after it is registered.
