Under subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965, the Assistant Treasurer has made a determination regarding the specification of coins proposed to be issued by the Royal Australian Mint (RAM).

 

Subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965 requires that the determination provides details of the coins’ characteristics, including standard composition, standard weight, allowable variation from standard weight, design and dimensions.

 

This determination is a disallowable instrument for the purposes of section 42 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003 (Subsection 13 (6) and 13A (4) of the Currency Act 1965, Section 57 of the Legislative Instruments Act 2003).

 

 

 

Item 1

 

20c Coin

2011 20c Cupro Nickel (Cu/Ni) Circulating Coin - Royal Wedding

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton, and a representation of a rose enclosed in a circle. The design features the inscriptions ‘ HRH PRINCE WILLIAM’, ‘MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON’, and ‘20’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘Australia 2011’ and the initials of Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

 

This coin will also be rolled and made part of the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program.

50c Coin

2011 50c Cu/Ni Uncirculated Coin - Royal Wedding

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton, and a representation of a rose enclosed in a circle. The design includes the inscriptions ‘HRH PRINCE WILLIAM’, ‘MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON’, and ‘50’.

2011 50c Fine Silver Selectively Gold Plated Coin - Royal Wedding

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton, and a representation of a rose enclosed in a circle, which is gold plated. The design includes the inscriptions ‘HRH PRINCE WILLIAM’, ‘MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON’, and ‘50’.

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘Australia 2011’ and the initials of Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

A reverse design consisting of a representation of a collection of roses enclosed in a circle, and a representation of Prince William’s coat of arms surrounded by ornate ribbons. The design includes the inscriptions ‘H.R.H. PRINCE WILLIAM AND MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON’, and ‘FIFTY CENTS’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘Australia 2010’ and the initials of Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

 

Packed in a blister and collector card, this product is set to become part of the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program.

The design includes the inscriptions ‘H.R.H. PRINCE WILLIAM AND MISS CATHERINE MIDDLETON’, and ‘FIFTY CENTS’.

2011 20c Cu/Ni Circulating Coin – International Women’s Day

 

A reverse design consisting of a representation of three stylised human figures, and the text ‘CELEBRATING 100 YEARS’ presented 12 times, superimposed on that text is ‘1911’, and ‘2011’. The design also includes the inscriptions ‘20’, and ‘INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘Australia 2011’ and the initials of Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

A reverse design consisting of a representation of the CHOGM 2011 logo, and the inscriptions ‘1 DOLLAR’, ‘CHOGM 2011’, and ‘PERTH, AUSTRALIA’.

 

OBVERSE

Consistent with all Australian legal tender coinage, an effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will appear on the obverse side of the coin together with the inscriptions ‘Elizabeth II’, ‘Australia 2011’ and the initials of Ian Rank-Broadley ‘IRB’.

 

This coin will also be rolled and made part of the Royal Australian Mint’s 2011 Numismatic Program.

 

 

Consultation

The Royal Australian Mint has received approval by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for the designs which relate to the engagement and pending wedding of HRH Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton. The coin design which relates to the centenary of International Women’s Day has been produced in consultation with the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs. The coin designs which relate to the 10th anniversary of the International Year of Volunteers and the Commonwealth Head’s of Government Meeting have been produced in consultation with the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Both Capital Bridges coins in this determination have been approved by the Brisbane City Council, and the Sydney Harbour Foreshore Authority respectively. 

 

Public consultation

No public consultation was undertaken in relation to the currency determination as it has limited public interest and the designs of the coins are based on the commercial decisions of the Royal Australian Mint.

 

The determination commences on the day after it is registered.
