Currency Determination No. 3 of 1997

I, CHARLES RODERICK KEMP, Assistant Treasurer, acting for the Treasurer, make the following Determination under subsection 13A (1) of the Currency Act 1965.

Citation

          1.   This Determination may be cited as Currency Determination No. 3 of 1997.

Commencement

          2.   This Determination commences on 9 June 1997.

Specifications of coins

          3.   This Determination specifies, for a coin of a kind having the denomination and standard composition specified in columns 1 and 2, respectively, in Part 1 of the Schedule, and a design specified in column 5 of that Part:

                (a)    the standard weight, and allowable variation from that weight, specified for a coin of that kind in column 3 of that Part; and

               (b)    the dimensions specified for a coin of that kind in column 4 of that Part.

Application of Determination

          4.   This Determination does not affect any other determination of the specifications of a coin.

A circle of raised beads, immediately inside the rim, enclosing:

                      (a)     the inscriptions:

                                   (i)     “ELIZABETH II”; and

                                  (ii)     “AUSTRALIA”; and

                     (b)     an inscription stating, in Arabic numerals, the amount, in dollars of the denomination of the coin, followed by the word “DOLLAR” or “DOLLARS”, as the case requires;

that, in turn, surround an effigy of the Queen.

A circle of raised beads, immediately inside the rim, enclosing the inscriptions:

                      (a)     “THE AUSTRALIAN KOOKABURRA 1OZ. 999 SILVER”; and

                     (b)     “1997”;

that, in turn, surround:

                      (c)     a representation of a kookaburra, and young, in the hollow of a tree; and

                (d)           a smaller circle enclosing, in gold cameo, a representation of a dragon.

                     (d)     an oval enclosing, in gold cameo, a representation of an electric light bulb surrounded by the inscription “THOMAS EDISON 1847‑1997”.
