Requirement:

Verify the technical logbook entries if Spindle part number 206-031-554 with a serial number listed in the Applicability section above is installed on the helicopter.

If an affected Spindle is installed, before further flight, replace the Spindle with a serviceable part.

Note:  Transport Canada AD CF-2007-02 and EASA AD 2007-0089, refer.

Compliance:

For Bell Model 206 helicopters:

Within 16 flight hours after 8 March 2007, but no later than 1 May 2007.

For Agusta Model AB 206 helicopters:

Within 16 flight hours after 8 May 2007, but no later 22 May 2007; unless already accomplished.

The compliance time for Bell Model 206 helicopters remains unchanged by this issue of the Directive.

This Amendment becomes effective on 8 May 2007.

Background:

A Transportation Safety Board of Canada investigation into an accident has revealed that the Spindle repaired by Cadorath Aerospace Inc., failed during flight and resulted in loss of control of the helicopter.  This Directive requires removal of all Spindles repaired by Cadorath Aerospace Inc.

Amendment 1 is issued in response to a new EASA AD, which requires the same technical actions as the original issue of this Directive to be applied to Agusta Model 206 A and B series helicopters.
