This Determination provides that services rendered by an Australian Defence Force member as part of the Technical Survey Team during the period 25 July 1997 to 7 August 1997 in Liberville and Congo is non-warlike service for the purposes of subsection 5C(1) of the Veterans' Entitlement Act 1986.

Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986

 

 Determination of Non-warlike Service

 

I, Bruce Billson, Minister for Veterans’ Affairs, for the Minister for Defence:

 

a.                      revoke the Determination made under subsection 5C(1) of the Veterans’ Entitlements Act 1986 (the Act) on 23 December 1997 in relation to service in Liberville (Gabon), Pointe Noire (Peoples Republic of Congo) and Barazzaville (Congo) during the period 25 July 1997 to 7 August 1997; and

b.                      determine that:

(i).          service rendered as a member of the Australian Defence Force as part of the Technical Survey Team during the period  25 July 1997 to 7 August 1997 in the specified area, is non-warlike service for the purposes of the definition of “non-warlike service” in subsection 5C(1) of the Act, and

(ii).         the specified area comprises Libreville (Gabon), Pointe Noire (Republic of the Congo [formerly known as the Peoples Republic of Congo]) and Brazzaville (Republic of the Congo).

c.                      This Determination is taken to have commenced on 25 July 1997.
