These Regulations amend the Health Insurance Regulations 1975 to add five new services to Schedule 6 to attract a Medicare benefit equal to 100% of the Medicare schedule fee and remove mircowave cancer therapy so that this service is not covered by Medicare.

I, PROFESSOR MARIE BASHIR, AC, CVO, Administrator of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Health Insurance Act 1973.

1              Name of Regulations

                These Regulations are the Health Insurance Amendment Regulations 2006 (No. 2).

2              Commencement

                These Regulations commence on 1 May 2006.

3              Amendment of Health Insurance Regulations 1975

                Schedule 1 amends the Health Insurance Regulations 1975.

(regulation 3)


[1]           Paragraph 14 (2) (f)


                (f)    professional services rendered for the purposes of, or in relation to:

                          (i)    the transplantation of a thoracic or abdominal organ, other than a kidney, or of part of an organ of that kind; or

                         (ii)    the transplantation of a kidney in conjunction with the transplantation of a thoracic or other abdominal organ, or of a part of an organ of that kind;

                        if the services are rendered to a patient of a hospital;

                (g)    professional services rendered for the purpose of administering microwave (UHF radiowave) cancer therapy, including the intravenous injection of drugs used immediately before or during the therapy.
