Seas and Submerged Lands (Limits of Continental Shelf in the Tasman Sea and South Pacific Ocean) Proclamation 2005

1              Name of Proclamation

                This Proclamation is the Seas and Submerged Lands (Limits of Continental Shelf in the Tasman Sea and South Pacific Ocean) Proclamation 2005.

2              Commencement

                This Proclamation commences on the day the Treaty between the Government of Australia and the Government of New Zealand Establishing Certain Exclusive Economic Zone Boundaries and Continental Shelf Boundaries, done at Adelaide on 25 July 2004, enters into force.

3              Revocation of previous Proclamation

                The Proclamation made under section 12 of the Seas and Submerged Lands Act 1973 on 16 December 2004 is revoked.

4              Geographic coordinates

                In this Proclamation, a geographic coordinate is determined by reference to the International Terrestrial Reference Frame 2000, as defined by the International Earth Rotation Service at epoch 1 January 2000.

5              Continental shelf — Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island

                The outer limit of Australia’s continental shelf in and in the vicinity of the area located between Lord Howe Island and the North Island of New Zealand, and Norfolk Island and the Three Kings Islands, is the line specified in Part 1 of Schedule 1.

6              Continental shelf — Macquarie Island

                The outer limit of Australia’s continental shelf in the area located between Macquarie Island and Auckland and Campbell Islands is the line specified in Part 2 of Schedule 1.

Part 1          Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island

                The line commencing at the point of latitude 26° 06¢ 10.91² south, longitude 173° 23¢ 53.59² east and running:

                (a)    south-westerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 27° 05¢ 37.98² south, longitude 171° 54¢ 30.61² east; and

               (b)    then southerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 27° 29¢ 53.98² south, longitude 171° 58¢ 42.98² east; and

                (c)    then southerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 27° 52¢ 50.38² south, longitude 171° 58¢ 51.31² east; and

               (d)    then southerly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 28° 13¢ 20.83² south, longitude 171° 56¢ 10.22² east; and

               (b)    then clockwise easterly along the geodesic arc of radius 200 nautical miles concave to Macquarie Island to the point of latitude 51° 10¢ 36.30² south, longitude 160° 37¢ 30.11² east; and

                (c)    then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 51° 26¢ 17.80² south, longitude 160° 57¢ 46.87² east; and

               (d)    then south-easterly along the geodesic to the point of latitude 52° 11¢ 26.54² south, longitude 161° 57¢ 11.15² east; and
