I, WILLIAM PATRICK DEANE, Governor-General of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, make the following Regulations under the Census and Statistics Act 1905.

1              Name of Regulations

                These Regulations are the Census Regulations 1994.

[2]         Regulation 2, definition of Census day





[3]         Sub-subparagraph 4 (a) (xviii) (A)


                                   (A)     the highest level of primary or secondary school completed;

[4]         Sub-subparagraph 4 (a) (xviii) (C)


                                   (C)     labour force status;

[5]         Subparagraph 4 (a) (xix)


                      (xix)    ancestry;

[6]         Sub-subparagraph 4 (a) (xx) (F)


                                    (F)     the main duties or tasks that the person usually performs in the occupation;

                                   (G)     mode of travel to work by the person on Census day;

[7]         After subparagraph 4 (a) (xx)


                      (xxi)    use of a personal computer during the week immediately preceding Census day;

                     (xxii)    use of the Internet during that week;

[8]         Paragraph 4 (b)

omit everything before subparagraph (i), insert

               (b)    in relation to a household accommodated on Census night in a private dwelling:

[9]         Sub-subparagraphs 4 (b) (ii) (D), (E) and (F)


                                   (D)     student status;

                                   (E)     relationship to other members of the household;

[10]      Subparagraph 4 (b) (iv)


                        (iv)    the number of bedrooms in the dwelling;

[11]      Subparagraphs 4 (b) (vi) and (vii)


                        (vi)    if the dwelling is rented, the nature of the person or body to whom rent is paid;

                       (vii)    the number of registered motor vehicles and motor cycles, garaged or parked at or near the dwelling on Census night, that are owned or used by residents of the dwelling;

[12]      Paragraph 4 (d)


               (d)    in relation to a dwelling other than a private dwelling:

                          (i)    classification of the dwelling by reference to its purpose;

                         (ii)    the status of a person in the dwelling.
