Notice under section 136 of the Radiocommunications Act 1992

NOTIFICATION OF PROPOSAL TO REVOKE THE RADIOCOMMUNICATIONS (OVERSEAS AMATEURS VISITING AUSTRALIA) CLASS LICENCE 2015

Notice is given under subsection 136(2) of the Radiocommunications Act 1992 (the Act) that the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) proposes to revoke the Radiocommunications (Overseas Amateurs Visiting Australia) Class Licence 2015 (Overseas Visiting Amateurs Class Licence), which is available from the Federal Register of Legislation.

Reasons for revocation

The Overseas Visiting Amateurs Class Licence authorises the operation of amateur stations in Australia by overseas visiting amateur radio operators who hold appropriate qualifications for a period of up to 90 days.

In September 2022, the ACMA consulted on the proposed Radiocommunications (Amateur Stations) Class Licence (proposed Amateur Class Licence) as part of its consultation on the proposed amateur class licensing arrangements and higher power operation. Under the proposed amateur class licence, overseas visiting amateurs will be authorised to operate amateur stations in Australia for a period of up to 365 days. The ACMA intends to make the proposed Amateur Class Licence in December 2023, for commencement in February 2024.

This notice informs interested parties that the ACMA intends to revoke the Overseas Visiting Amateurs Class Licence. The proposed Amateur Class Licence includes a provision to revoke the current Overseas Visiting Amateurs Class Licence.

Copies of the Overseas Visiting Amateurs Class Licence, the proposed Amateur Class Licence and planned changes to the proposed Amateur Class Licence since the September 2022 consultation are available on the ACMA’s website (www.acma.gov.au).  Hardcopies may be obtained from the ACMA by contacting:
