APPOINTED AN HONORARY OFFICER (AO)

IN THE MILITARY DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIA

Lieutenant General John Aloysius TOOLAN USMC (Retd), United States of America

Lieutenant General Toolan made a significant and highly valued contribution to the development of Australian Defence Force capabilities and the further expansion and deepening of the bilateral defence and security relationship between Australia and the United States.  He engaged both countries’ political and military leaders to promote and facilitate the establishment of the Marine Forces Rotation in Darwin.  He also provided vital support to enable the Australian Defence Force to more rapidly and effectively introduce the enhanced amphibious capability into service.
