A Bill for an Act to amend the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1  Short title

                   This Act is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Amendment (Regional Australia) Act 2017.

2  Commencement

             (1)  Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

1.  The whole of this Act

The day after this Act receives the Royal Assent.

 

Note:          This table relates only to the provisions of this Act as originally enacted. It will not be amended to deal with any later amendments of this Act.

3  Schedules

                   Legislation that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.

Schedule 1Amendments

  

Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983

1  At the end of section 68

Add:

             (3)  The Corporation must ensure that at least 35 per cent of the money of the Corporation applied in a financial year is applied in making payments to persons in regional, rural or remote parts of Australia.

2  After paragraph 80(k)

Insert:

                   (ka)  particulars of the amount of the money of the Corporation applied in the period in making payments to persons in regional, rural and remote parts of Australia; and

3  Transitional provision

If the day this Schedule commences (the commencement day) is a day other than 1 July, section 68 of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation Act 1983, as amended by this Schedule, has effect as if the period between the start of the commencement day and the end of the first 30 June to occur on or after the commencement day were a financial year.
