A Bill for an Act to stop the Environment Minister exempting shark drum lines from the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, and for related purposes

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1  Short title

                   This Act may be cited as the Save Our Sharks Act 2014.

2  Commencement

                   This Act is taken to have commenced on 25 March 2014.

3  Exemptions

             (1)  The Minister must not grant an exemption under section 158 of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 in relation to drum lines deployed to catch sharks.

             (2)  The exemption granted on 10 January 2014 in relation to the setting up of up to seventy two baited drum lines is taken to have ceased to have effect on 25 March 2014.
