A Bill for an Act to prioritise Commonwealth funding of rail projects identified by Infrastructure Australia, and for related purposes
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Infrastructure (PriorityFunding) Amendment Act 2013.
2 Commencement
This Act commences on the day after this Act receives the Royal Assent.
3 Schedule(s)
Each Act that is specified in a Schedule to this Act is amended or repealed as set out in the applicable items in the Schedule concerned, and any other item in a Schedule to this Act has effect according to its terms.
Schedule 1—Amendments
Infrastructure Australia Act 2008
1 After section 5
Insert:
5A Commonwealth funding to give priority to rail projects on Infrastructure Priority Lists
(1) The Minister must ensure that infrastructure projects that relate to rail and are included on an Infrastructure Priority List as ready to proceed are given priority for Commonwealth funding over any infrastructure project that relates to roads (other than an exempt road project).
(2) An exempt road project is a road project:
(a) designed to address an urgent or significant road safety issue; or
(b) on which construction has already begun at the time this Act commences.
