A Bill for an Act to amend the Charter of Budget Honesty Act 1998, and for related purposes
The Parliament of Australia enacts:
1 Short title
This Act may be cited as the Charter of Budget Honesty Amendment Act 2011.
2 Commencement
(1) Each provision of this Act specified in column 1 of the table commences, or is taken to have commenced, in accordance with column 2 of the table. Any other statement in column 2 has effect according to its terms.

3 Schedule
The Charter of Budget Honesty Act 1998 is amended as set out in Schedule 1.
Schedule 1—Charter of Budget Honesty Act 1998
1 Subclause 3(1) of Schedule 1 (definition of Leader of the Opposition)
Repeal the definition.
2 Subclause 29(1) of Schedule 1
Repeal the subclause, substitute:
(1) During the caretaker period for a general election the Prime Minister may request the responsible Secretaries to prepare costings of publicly announced Government policies.
3 Subclauses 29(3) and (4) of Schedule 1
Repeal the subclauses.
4 Subclause 29(5) of Schedule 1
Repeal the subclause, substitute:
(5) The Prime Minister may, at any time, by notice in writing given to the responsible Secretaries, withdraw a request that he or she has made.
5 Subclause 30(3) of Schedule 1
Omit “or the Leader of the Opposition (as the case requires)”.
6 Subclause 31(1) of Schedule 1 (note 2)
Omit “29(4)”, substitute “29(5)”.
