A Bill for an Act to amend the Trade Practices Act 1974

The Parliament of Australia enacts:

1 Short title This Act may be cited as the Trade Practices Amendment (Unconscionable Conduct - Saving of State and Territory Laws) Act 2000

2 Commencement This Act commences on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

3 Schedule(s) The Trade Practices Act 1974 is amended as set out in Schedule 1

Schedule 1--Amendment of the Trade Practices Act 1974 1 After section 51AC Insert in part IVA:

51AAC Concurrent operation of State and Territory Laws

It is the Parliament's intention that a law of a State or Territory should be able to operate concurrently with this Part unless the law is directly inconsistent with this Part.
