REGULATIONS UNDER THE GRANTS COMMISSION ACT 1973.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of Australia, acting with the advice of the Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Grants Commission Act 1973.

GRANTS COMMISSION REGULATIONS

Citation.

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Grants Commission Regulations.

Remuneration of annual allowance of Chairman.

2. In respect of any period of office before 1st January, 1974, there is payable to the Chairman salary at the rate of Twenty-nine thousand two hundred and fifty dollars per year and an annual allowance at the rate of One thousand seven hundred and fifty dollars per year.

Remuneration of members other than Chairman.

3. In respect of any period of office before 1st January, 1974, the rate of salary payable to a member, other than the Chairman, is—

(a) in the case of a full-time member—Nineteen thousand one hundred and forty-eight dollars per year; and

(b) in the case of a part-time member—Three thousand eight hundred and fifty dollars per year.

Travelling allowance.

4. (1) Subject to regulation 6, where a member is, in the course of performing his duties, necessarily absent overnight from the city in which he normally resides, travelling allowance is payable to him in accordance with this regulation.

(2) Subject to sub-regulation (3), travelling allowance in respect of the period of absence is payable—

(a) in the case of the Chairman—at the rate of Thirty-four dollars per day; and

(b) in the case of any other member—at the rate of Twenty-eight dollars per day.

(3) Travelling allowance payable under this regulation is in addition to, and does not include, the cost of conveyance.

Other allowances payable while serving in Australia.

5. Subject to regulation 6, a member is entitled to be paid such allowances, other than travelling allowances, as would be payable to him—

(a) in the case of the Chairman—if he were the Permanent Head of a Department; and

(b) in the case of any other member—if he were an officer of the Public Service of the Commonwealth and were included in the Second Division.

Allowances in respect of service outside Australia.

6. (1) Where a member performs duties outside Australia and the Territories of Australia, he is entitled to be paid such allowances as he would be entitled to be paid—

(a) in the case of the Chairman—if he were the Permanent Head of a Department; and

(b) in the case of any other member—if he were an officer of the Public Service of the Commonwealth and were included in the Second Division.

(2) A member who is entitled to be paid travelling allowance in respect of a period under sub-regulation (1) of this regulation is not entitled to be paid travelling allowance in respect of that period under regulation 4.
