REGULATIONS UNDER THE TARIFF BOARD ACT 1921-1972.*
I, THE ADMINISTRATOR of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Tariff Board Act 1921-1972.

TARIFF BOARD REGULATIONS
Citation.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Tariff Board Regulations.
Application.
2. These Regulations apply in respect of any period of office of a member or of an authority on or after the seventh day of June, 1972.
Interpretation.
3. In these Regulations, “the Act” means the Tariff Board Act 1921-1972.
Allowance for presiding at Board meetings or constituting Division of Board.
4.—(1.) In this regulation, a reference to a member shall be rend as a reference to a member other than the Chairman, an Acting Chairman or a Deputy Chairman.
(2.) Subject to the next two succeeding sub-regulations, where a member is empowered to preside at meetings of a Division of the Board, or constitutes a Division of the Board, in respect of an inquiry, an allowance at the rate of Two hundred and fifty-one dollars per year is payable to the member in respect of the period of the inquiry.
(3.) An allowance is not payable to a member under the last preceding sub-regulation in relation to an inquiry if the period of the inquiry is less than one week.
(4.) Where an allowance would, but for this sub-regulation, be payable to a member under sub-regulation (2.) of this regulation for a period in relation to two or more inquiries, the allowance is payable to the member for that period in relation to one of those inquiries but not in relation to the other inquiry or the other inquiries.
Travelling allowance.
5.—(1.) Subject to regulation 7 of these Regulations, where a member is necessarily absent from Canberra overnight in the course of performing his duties, travelling allowance is payable to him in accordance with this regulation.
(2.) Subject to the next succeeding sub-regulation, travelling allowance in respect of the period of absence is payable—
(a) in the case of the Chairman—at the rate of Thirty-four dollars per day; and
(b) in any other case—at the rate of Twenty-five dollars per day.
(3.) Travelling allowance payable under this regulation is in addition to, and does not include, the cost of conveyance.

Other allowances payable while service in Australia.
6. Subject to the next succeeding regulation, a member is entitled to be paid such allowances, other than travelling allowance, as would be payable to him under the Public Service Regulations, as in force from time to time, if he were an officer of the Public Service of the Commonwealth and were included—
(a) in the case of the Chairman—in the First Division; or
(b) in any other case—in the Second Division,
Allowances in respect of service outside Australia.
7.—(1.) Where a member performs duties outside Australia and the Territories of the Commonwealth, he is entitled to be paid such allowances as he would be entitled to be paid—
(a) in the case of the Chairman—if he were the Permanent Head of a Department and in receipt of salary equal to the salary payable to the Secretary to the Department of Trade and Industry; or
(b) in any other case—if he were an officer of the Public Service of the Commonwealth and were included in the Second Division.
(2.) A member who is entitled to be paid travelling allowance in respect of a period under the last preceding sub-regulation is not entitled to be paid travelling allowance in respect of that period under regulation 5 of those Regulations.
Remuneration of authority.
8.—(1) Subject to the next succeeding sub-regulation, for the purposes of sub-section (1.) of section 14b of the Act, the remuneration payable to an authority, other than a member of the Board, is remuneration at the rate of Four thousand five hundred dollars per year and, in addition, Two hundred and seventy-five dollars for each enquiry undertaken by that authority under section 18b of the Act.
(2.) The amount payable to an authority by way of remuneration as prescribed in the last preceding sub-regulation shall not exceed the sum of Nine thousand dollars in a year.
(3.) For the purposes of the last preceding sub-regulation, “year” means a period of twelve months commencing on the first day of January.
Allowance to authority.
9.—(1.) Where an authority, other than a member of the Board, is necessarily absent from his usual place of residence overnight in the course of performing his duties, travelling allowance is payable to him at the rate of Twenty-five dollars per day.
(2.) Travelling allowance payable under this regulation is in addition to, and does not include, the cost of conveyance.
