REGULATIONS UNDER THE PIG SLAUGHTER LEVY COLLECTION ACT 1971.*
I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Pig Slaughter Levy Collection Act 1971.

PIG SLAUGHTER LEVY COLLECTION REGULATIONS
Citation.
1. These Regulations may be cited as the Pig Slaughter Levy Collection Regulations.
Interpretation.
2.—(1.) In these Regulations, unless the contrary intention appears—
“authorized agent” means a person appointed in pursuance of regulation 7 of these Regulations to be an authorized agent;
“month” means a month of the year and, if a month commenced before the commencement of these Regulations, includes that part of the month that occurs after the commencement of these Regulations.
(2.) In these Regulations, a reference to a form by number shall be read as a reference to the form so numbered in the Schedule to these Regulations.
Manner of payment of levy, &c.
3.—(1.) Payment of levy or other amounts payable to the Commonwealth under the Pig Slaughter Levy Collection Act 1971 in respect of pigs slaughtered at an abattoir in a State shall be made at the office of the Department of Primary Industry in the capital city of that State.
(2.) Payment of levy or other amounts payable to the Commonwealth under the Pig Slaughter Levy Collection Act 1971 in respect of pigs slaughtered at an abattoir in the Australian Capital Territory or the Northern Territory of Australia shall be made at the office of the Department of Primary Industry in Canberra.
Returns.
4.—(1.) Where pigs are slaughtered at an abattoir during a month, the proprietor of the abattoir shall, on or before the twenty-eighth day of the next succeeding month, furnish to the Secretary, as provided in the next succeeding sub-regulation, a return and declaration, in accordance with Form 1, with respect to the pigs so slaughtered.

(2.) A return with respect to pigs slaughtered at an abattoir—
(a) shall be signed by the proprietor or one of the proprietors of the abattoir, by the authorized agent of the proprietor or one of the proprietors of the abattoir, by the manager of the abattoir or, if the proprietor of the abattoir is a company, by a director or the secretary of the company; and
(b) shall be furnished to the Secretary by delivering it—
(i) in the case of an abattoir situated in a State—at the office of the Department of Primary Industry in the capital city of that State; or
(ii) in the case of an abattoir situated in the Australian Capital Territory or the Northern Territory of Australia—at the office of the Department of Primary Industry in Canberra.
Proper records to be kept.
5. The proprietor of an abattoir, or a person who causes pigs to be slaughtered at an abattoir of which another person is the proprietor, shall keep or cause to be kept proper records showing, in respect of each month—
(a) the number of pigs so slaughtered at the abattoir, or so caused to be slaughtered by him, on each day of that month; and
(b) the total number of pigs so slaughtered at the abattoir, or so caused to be slaughtered by him, during that month.
Penalty: Two hundred dollars.
Statement to be furnished at request of the proprietor.
6. A person who, during a month, causes pigs to be slaughtered at an abattoir of which another person is the proprietor shall, when requested in writing by the proprietor, furnish to the proprietor a statement setting out the information required to be recorded by the person under the last preceding regulation with respect to the pigs so slaughtered.
Authorised agents.
7.—(1.) The proprietor of an abattoir may appoint a person to be his authorized agent for the purpose of executing, from time to time, on his behalf the declarations in forms in accordance with Form 1.
(2.) The appointment of an authorized agent by the proprietor of an abattoir in a State or Territory—
(a) shall be in accordance with Form 2; and
(b) shall be lodged—
(i) where the appointment relates to an abattoir in a State—at the office of the Department of Primary Industry in the capital city of that State; and
(ii) where the appointment relates to an abattoir in the Australian Capital Territory or the Northern Territory of Australia—at the office of the Department of Primary Industry in Canberra.

APPOINTMENT OF AUTHORIZED AGENT
To the Secretary to the Department of Primary Industry.
I, (full name and address of proprietor or of one of the proprietors), hereby appoint (full name, address and occupation of authorized agent), a specimen of whose signature appears on this appointment, to be my authorized agent for the purpose of executing, from time to time, on my behalf the declarations in forms in accordance with Form 1 in the Schedule to the Pig Slaughter Levy Collection Regulations.
