An Act relating to the Remuneration and Allowances payable to the Holders of certain Statutory Offices.

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—

Short title.

1.   This Act may be cited as the Salaries (Statutory Offices) Adjustment Act 1971.

Commencement.

2.—(1.)     Subject to this section, this Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.

(2.)   The amendment made by this Act to the Criminology Research Act 1971 shall take effect on the day on which that Act comes into operation.

Amendment of certain Acts.

3.—(1.)     The Acts specified in the first column of the First Schedule to this Act (being Acts containing provisions relating to the remuneration and allowances payable to the holders of the offices respectively specified in the second column of that Schedule) are amended as respectively specified in the third column of that Schedule.

(2.)   Section 1 of the Broadcasting and Television Act (No. 2) 1971 is amended by omitting sub-section (4.).

Citation of Acts.

4.  An Act specified in the first column of the Second Schedule to this Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited in the manner specified in the second column of that Schedule opposite to the reference to that Act in the first column.

Australian Wool Commission Act 1970

Section 12—

Omit sub-section (1.), insert—

“(1.) The Chairman shall be paid, out of the funds of the Commission, such remuneration, and such annual allowance (if any), as the Parliament fixes.

“(1a.) A member of the Commission, other than the Chairman and the member representing the Commonwealth, shall be paid, out of the funds of the Commission, remuneration at the rate of Two thousand six hundred dollars per year.

“(1b.) For each day on which the deputy of a member, other than the deputy of the member representing the Commonwealth, attends a meeting of the Commission, there is payable to the deputy, out of the funds of the Commission, such remuneration as is prescribed.”.

Omit from sub-section (2.) “other allowances”, insert “allowances other than annual allowances”.

Broadcasting and Television Act 1942–1969, as amended by the Broadcasting and Television Act 1971 and by the Broadcasting and Television Act (No. 2) 1971

Chairman and members of the Australian Broadcasting Control Board

Omit section 11, insert—

“11.—(1.) The Chairman of the Board shall be paid remuneration at the rate of Seventeen thousand nine hundred and forty-seven dollars a year.

“(2.) A member other than the Chairman or a part-time member shall be paid remuneration at the rate of Fifteen thousand three hundred and seventy dollars a year.

“(3.) A part-time member shall be paid remuneration at the rate of One thousand nine hundred and fifty dollars a year.

“(4.) A member shall be paid such prescribed allowances, not including an annual allowance, as are applicable to him.”.

Chairman and members of the Australian Broadcasting Commission

Omit section 33, insert—

“33.—(1.) The Chairman of the Commission, or a person, including the Vice-chairman of the Commission, appointed by the Governor-General to act as Chairman for a period, shall be paid remuneration at the rate of Six thousand four hundred and fifty dollars a year.

“(2.) The Vice-chairman of the Commission (except when the last preceding sub-section is applicable to him), or a person appointed by the Governor-General to perform the

functions of the Vice-chairman, shall be paid a remuneration at the rate of Two thousand six hundred dollars a year.

“(3.) Except where either of the last two sub-sections is applicable, a Commissioner shall be paid remuneration at the rate of One thousand nine hundred and fifty dollars a year.

“(4.) A Commissioner shall be paid such prescribed allowances, not including an annual allowance, as are applicable to him.”.

General manager of the Australian Broadcasting Commission

Section 43—

Omit sub-section (7.), insert—

“(7.) The general manager shall be paid salary at the rate of Nineteen thousand five hundred dollars a year and an annual allowance at the rate of One thousand dollars a year.”.

Compensation (Commonwealth Employees) Act 1971

Commissioner for Employees’ Compensation

Section 11—

Omit sub-section (1.), insert—

“(1.) The Commissioner shall be paid salary at the rate of Fourteen thousand seven hundred and twenty-seven dollars per year and such annual allowance (if any) as the Parliament provides.”.

In sub-section (2.), after “allowances”, insert “other than annual allowances”.

Person constituting a Commonwealth Employees’ Compensation Tribunal

Section 66—

Omit sub-section (1.), insert—

“(1.) A person constituting a Compensation Tribunal shall—

(a) in the case of a person appointed for a period of not less than one year—be paid remuneration at the rate of Seventeen thousand one hundred and seventy-two dollars per year and such annual allowance (if any) as the Parliament provides; and

(b) in any other case—be paid such remuneration as is prescribed.”.

In sub-section (2.), after “allowances”, insert “other than annual allowances”.

Criminology Research Act 1971

Director of the Australian Institute of Criminology

Section 18—

Omit sub-section (1.), insert—

“(1.) The Director shall be paid salary at the rate of Fifteen thousand three hundred and seventy dollars per year and such annual allowance (if any) as the Parliament fixes.”.

Omit from sub-section (2.) “other allowances”, insert “allowances other than annual allowances”.
