An Act to amend the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1966 with respect to Approved Rates of Remuneration for Academic Staff of Universities and to the Amounts of Grants to the States in connexion with the Recurrent Expenditure of Universities.

BE it enacted by the Queen’s Most Excellent Majesty, the Senate, and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:—

Short title and citation.

1.—(1.)     This Act may be cited as the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act (No. 2) 1967.


(2.)     The Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1966 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

(3.)     The Principal Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the Universities (Financial Assistance) Act 1966-1967.

Commencement.

2.—(1.)     Sections 1 and 2 of this Act shall come into operation on the day on which this Act receives the Royal Assent.

(2.)     Section 3 of this Act shall be deemed to have come into operation on the first day of July, One thousand nine hundred and sixty-seven.

(3.)     Section 4 of this Act shall be deemed to have come into operation on the twenty-sixth day of November, One thousand nine hundred and sixty-six.

Salary rates.

3.  Section 4 of the Principal Act is amended—

(a) by omitting from paragraph (a) of sub-section (1.) the words “Ten thousand four hundred” and inserting in their stead the words “Twelve thousand”;

(b) by omitting from paragraph (b) of that sub-section the words “Eight thousand six hundred” and inserting in their stead the words “Nine thousand nine hundred”;

(c) by omitting from paragraph (c) of that sub-section the words “Seven thousand six hundred” and inserting in their stead the words “Eight thousand seven hundred and fifty”;

(d) by omitting from paragraph (c) of that sub-section the word “and” (last occurring);

(e) by omitting paragraph (d) of that sub-section and inserting in its. stead the following paragraphs:—

“(d) the approved maximum rate in a range of remuneration for a lecturer is Seven thousand three hundred dollars; and

“(e) the approved minimum rate in a range of remuneration for a lecturer is Five thousand four hundred dollars.”;

(f) by omitting from paragraph (c) of sub-section (2.) the word “or”; and

(g) by omitting paragraph (d) of sub-section (2.) and inserting in its stead the following paragraphs:—

“(d) remuneration to lecturers in accordance with a range of remuneration the maximum rate of which was higher than the rate referred to in paragraph (d) of the last preceding sub-section; or

“(e) remuneration to lecturers in accordance with a range of remuneration the minimum rate of which was higher than the rate referred to in paragraph (e) of the last preceding sub-section,”.


First Schedule.

4.  The First Schedule to the Principal Act is repealed and the following Schedule inserted in its stead:—
