REGULATIONS UNDER THE DEFENCE ACT 1903-1941.*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL in and over the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Defence Act 1903-1941.

Amendments of the War Financial (Military Forces) Regulations.

Commencement.

1.—(1.)   These Regulations shall, except as provided in the next succeeding sub-regulation, be deemed to have come into operation as on and from the seventh day of November, 1941.

(2.)   The amendment effected by paragraph (d)of regulation 3 of these Regulations shall be deemed to have come into operation as on and from the twenty-sixth day of September, 1941.

Definitions.

2.  Regulation 4 of the War Financial (Military Forces) Regulations is amended by omitting paragraphs (a)and (b)from the definition of “standard rate” and inserting in their stead the following paragraphs:—

(a) in the case of an officer—a total rate of five shillings and sixpence per day;

(b) in the case of a matron-in-chief, a principal matron, or a matron—a total rate of five shillings and fourpence per day;

(c) in the case of a soldier—a total rate of three shillings and sixpence per day; and

(d) in the case of a sister, a staff masseuse, a staff nurse, or a masseuse—a total rate of three shillings and fourpence per day; “.

Dependants allowance.

3.  Regulation 34 of the War Financial (Military Forces) Regulations is amended—

(a) by inserting in paragraph (b),after the figures “1940”, the words and figures “and prior to the seventh day of November, 1941”;

(b) by inserting, after paragraph (b),the following paragraph:—

“(c) in respect of any period after the sixth day of November, 1941—

(i) where the member has one dependant only—three shillings and sixpence per day;

(ii) where the member has two dependants only—six shillings per day;

(iii) where the member has three dependants only—eight shillings per day;

(iv) where the member has more than three dependants—eight shillings per day plus one shilling and sixpence per day for each dependant in excess of three:”;

(c) by inserting in the proviso to that regulation, after the figures “1940”, the words and figures “and prior to the seventh day of November, 1941”; and

(d)by adding at the end thereof the following sub-regulation:—

“(2.) Where during the period commencing on the twenty-sixth day of September, 1941, and ending on the sixth day of November, 1941, the only dependant of a member was his wife, the maximum rate of allowance prescribed by this regulation may be increased by sixpence per day in respect of that period.”.

First and Second Schedules

4.  The First and Second Schedules to the War Financial (Military Forces) Regulations are repealed and the following Schedules inserted in their stead:—
