Appointed an honorary Officer (AO) in the General Division

 

 

NAME : Mr Robert Neil MacGregor OM

CITATION : For service to promoting Australia and Australian art in the United Kingdom.

 

 

Mr MacGregor, Director of the British Museum, has promoted Australia and Australian art and flora in Britain, particularly through the Australian season exhibition held in 2011 which included: Out of Australia: Prints and drawings from Sidney Noland to Rover Thomas, the forecourt Australian Landscape display and the Baskets and belonging: Indigenous Australian histories.

 

As Director of the Museum since 2002, Mr MacGregor has collected over 880 Australian prints and drawings and has made annual visits to Australia, including as guest lecturer at the Museum Leadership Program held at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management in 2009.  He has also organised a series of exhibitions to be lent to Australian Museums from the British Museum collections.  The first exhibition Extraordinary Stories from the British Museum was staged in Western Australia from October 2011 to February 2012; the second Mummy: Secrets of the Tomb has featured at the Brisbane Museum from April to August 2012 and the last The Wonders of Ancient Mesopotamia opened at the Melbourne Museum in May 2012.

 

Mr MacGregor’s collaboration with Australian museums and his contribution to promoting Australian art has been outstanding.

NAME : Mr Bernard André Wright

CITATION : For service to the accounting profession, particularly for his sustained contribution to CPA Australia, to business and commerce and to the community.

 

 

Mr Wright is a retired Certified Practising Accountant and a businessman who has made a sustained and considerable contribution to the accounting profession, including to the Perth Stock Exchange, to business and to the general community in Western Australia.

 

An outline of Mr Wright’s professional contributions includes:

 

Throughout his career, Mr Wright was a very active member of CPA Australia, introducing a number of initiatives which have enhanced the society’s standing and professionalism.  In October 1991, he was made a Fellow of the Australian Stock Exchange for service to the Australian securities industry.  Mr Wright also made extensive contributions to the community, including as the inaugural Chairman of the Western Australian Film Council in 1971, Chairman of Penrhos College Silver Jubilee appeal (1975), Wesley College Council Finance and Properties subcommittee (19751988) and as the inaugural Chairman of the Wesley College Endowment Fund (1981).
