An Act to amend the Census and Statistics Act 1905

BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, and the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Australia, as follows:
Short title, &c.
1. (1) This Act may be cited as the Census and Statistics Amendment Act 1985.
(2) The Census and Statistics Act 19051 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.
2. After section 1 of the Principal Act the following section is inserted:
Application to external Territories
“2. This Act, other than Part III, extends to such external Territories as are prescribed.”.
Refusal or failure to answer questions, &c.
3. Section 14 of the Principal Act is amended by omitting sub-section (2) and substituting the following sub-section:
“(2) Sub-section (1) does not apply in relation to a refusal or failure by a person to answer a question, or to supply particulars, relating to the person’s religious beliefs.”.
