STATES GRANTS (ADVANCED EDUCATION)
ACT 1975
An Act to amend the States Grants (Advanced Education) Act 1972-1974.
BE IT ENACTED by the Queen, the Senate and the House of Representatives of Australia, as follows:—
Short title and citation.
1. (1) This Act may be cited as the States Grants (Advanced Education) Act 1975.
(2) The States Grants (Advanced Education) Act 1972-1974 is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.
(3) The Principal Act, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the States Grants (Advanced Education) Act 1972-1975.
Commencement.
2. This Act shall come into operation on the day on which it receives the Royal Assent.
3. After section 6a of the Principal Act the following section is inserted:—
Grants for capital expenditure by non-government teachers colleges.
“6b. (1) During the year 1975, there are payable to the State of New South Wales, in relation to a non-government teachers college referred to in sub-section (2), for the purposes of financial assistance, such amounts as the Minister approves.
“(2) The sum of the amounts payable to the State under sub-section (1) shall not exceed—
(a) in the case of amounts payable in respect of the Catholic College of Education—$46,550; and
(b) in the case of amounts payable in respect of the Good Samaritan Teachers College—$13,590.
“(3) The financial assistance to the State under this section in relation to a non-government teachers college is granted on the condition that the State will, in respect of each payment of that financial assistance and without undue delay, ensure that the amount of the payment is applied, in a manner approved by the Commission, towards the payment of costs incurred by the college by way of capital expenditure during the year 1975.
“(4) As soon as practicable after 31 December 1975, the Minister shall cause a statement of the approvals given under this section to be laid before each House of the Parliament.”.
Grant for course in social work.
4. Section 7b of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from paragraph (b) of sub-section (3) the figures “$112,510” and substituting the figures “$123,080”.
Grants for colleges conducting pre-school teachers courses.
5. Section 7e of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) the figures “$448,170” and substituting the figures “$457,410”.
Grant in relation to Western Australian Institute of Technology.
6. Section 7f of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) the figures “$258,190” and substituting the figures “$258,600”.
Grant to Victoria in connexion with certain new courses.
7. Section 7g of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (1) the figures “$858,300” and substituting the figures “$880,550”.
Grant in relation to State College of Victoria, Toorak.
8. Section 7h of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) the figures “$68,170” and substituting the figures “$94,240”.
Grants for postgraduate diploma courses in recreation leadership.
9. Section 7j of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) the figures “$80,000” and substituting the figures “$82,670”.
Grants for associate diploma courses in recreation leadership.
10. Section 7k of the Principal Act is amended by omitting from sub-section (2) the figures “$150,000” and substituting the figures “$157,800”.
11. After section 7k of the Principal Act the following sections are inserted:—
Grants for associate diploma courses in welfare studies.
“7l. (1) During the year 1975, there are payable, in relation to a college of advanced education referred to in the Eighth Schedule, to the State in which the college is situated, for the purposes of financial assistance, such amounts as the Minister approves.
“(2) The sum of the amounts payable to a State under sub-section (1) in respect of a college of advanced education referred to in the Eighth Schedule shall not exceed the maximum amount specified in that Schedule in relation to that college.
“(3) The financial assistance to a State under this section in relation to a college of advanced education is granted on the condition that the State will, in respect of each payment of that financial assistance and without undue delay, ensure that the amount of the payment is applied, in a manner approved by the Commission, towards the costs incurred by the college during the year 1975 in respect of the establishment, development and conduct of an associate diploma course in welfare studies.
“(4) As soon as practicable after 31 December 1975, the Minister shall cause a statement of the approvals given under this section to be laid before each House of the Parliament.
Supplemental grants for Riverina College of Advanced Education.
“7m. (1) During the year 1975, there are payable to the State of New South Wales, in relation to the Riverina College of Advanced Education, for the purposes of financial assistance, such amounts in respect of recurrent expenditure and capital expenditure as the Minister approves.
“(2) The sum of the amounts payable to the State under sub-section (1) shall not exceed—
(a) in the case of amounts paid in respect of recurrent expenditure—$140,000; and
(b) in the case of amounts paid in respect of capital expenditure—$265,000.
“(3) The financial assistance to the State under this section is granted on the condition that the State will, in respect of each payment of that financial assistance and without undue delay, ensure that the amount of the payment is applied, in a manner approved by the Commission, towards expenditure incurred by the college during the year 1975 by way of recurrent expenditure or capital expenditure, as the case requires, in respect of acceleration of the development of its Albury-Wodonga Study Centre.
“(4) As soon as practicable after 31 December 1975, the Minister shall cause a statement of the approvals given under this section to be laid before each House of the Parliament.”.
Schedules.
12. The Schedules to the Principal Act are repealed and the Schedules set out in the Schedule to this Act substituted.
