REGULATIONS UNDER THE SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY RESEARCH ACT 1949*

I, THE GOVERNOR-GENERAL of the Commonwealth of Australia, acting with the advice of the Federal Executive Council, hereby make the following Regulations under the Science and Industry Research Act 1949.

SCIENCE AND INDUSTRY RESEARCH (ADVISORY COUNCIL AND STATE COMMITTEES) REGULATIONS†

Citation

1. These Regulations may be cited as the Science and Industry Research (Advisory Council and State Committees) Regulations.

Repeal of Science and Industry Research Regulations

2. The following Statutory Rules are repealed:

Quorum for meeting of the Advisory Council

3. At a meeting of the Advisory Council a quorum shall be constituted by 15 members.

Period of appointment of members of State Committees

4. A member of a State Committee shall be appointed for a period not exceeding 5 years, but is eligible for re-appointment.

Meetings of State Committees

5. (1) Each State Committee shall hold such meetings as are necessary for the performance of its functions, but shall meet at least 3 times in each year.

(2) The Chairman of each State Committee may, at any time, convene a meeting of the State Committee, and shall do so if directed by the Minister.

(3) At a meeting of a State Committee a quorum shall be constituted by 6 members of the State Committee.

(4) The Chairman of a State Committee shall preside at all meetings at which he is present.

(5) In the event of the absence of the Chairman of a State Committee from a meeting of that State Committee, the members of the State Committee present shall elect one of their members to preside at that meeting.

(6) A question arising at a meeting of a State Committee shall be decided by a majority of the votes of members of the State Committee present and voting.

(7) At a meeting of a State Committee, the Chairman of the State Committee or other member of the State Committee presiding has a deliberative vote and, in the event of votes being equal, also has a casting vote.

(8) In this regulation, year means the period of 12 months commencing on 1 July 1979 and each subsequent period of 12 months.
